Nereid gives a noncommital wave of the flippers to Powerplay before turning to look directly at Peekaboo and beginning to swim over, and accelerating, looking like she was about to ram into her, a grinning Orca.
Nereid opens her mouth a bit, then closes, and simply stands by Ruth, making no comment, but looking at Mechakoloss a bit icily.
Hannah comes in, bright cerulean blue hair a departure from the norm as she enters, and smiles at Memphis, "Oh, no thank you." She says, shaking her head. Carefully she takes a seat. She seems.. a bit nervous really. It's hard to put a pin on but she's a bit on edge, probably from being called for a meeting.
"So, uhm. You wanted to get to know me?" She asks curiously, looking up at Memphis.
As she swings her head around to look, Nereid's form finalizes into an honestly quite large orca, at around 20 feet in length, she releases more clicks, sonar pulsing out to get a sense of her surroundings, though she remains where she is in midair, awaiting Peek-a-boo's first move.
Nereid looks between Mechakoloss entering, and Ruth behind the desk. Looking to Mechakoloss with a quirked eyebrow, she says, "Well, hello there?"
Nereid is sort of, awkwardly to one side of the office, she had been clearly talking to Ruth as Mechakoloss entered. In general she seemed a little awkward and surprised about this.
"Huh, ok." She muses it a bit. "Do you wanna see some of my forms?"
It'd be around 15 or so minutes judging by Ruth's watch until a younger girl in a red swimsuit with bright blue hair arrived. Looking to Ruth, she says, "You asked for me? Did we need to do another image consult?"
Hannah AKA Nereid looked quickly put together- like she'd not had much time to get into costume. "If this is about locking me away from predator forms again I can call my grandfather again but I don't think the result will be much different."
Nereid says nothing, merely observing as she begins to shift, form lengthening and broadening as black and white coloration begin to appear on her skin. She hasn't yet fully transformed, but it's looking like she's getting close to a fully grown Orca.
Nereid glancing at the scars nods slowly, "Yeah I wouldn't want to test it. If I lose my arm that's 2 months in Axolotl form to regrow it, which isn't fun." She says.
"You can build stuff from my power, as like inspiration or something?"
She leans back a bit at Alia's lean forwards. "Wow, that's a lot of stuff. Uhm, as for the wounds, they transfer as closely as they can really, We haven't been able to test it with massive damage so far, but if they scratch my arm and I go dolphin my fin and maybe a part of my body will be scratched too. But if I get hurt I can like, turn into a =n Axolotl and heal it no problem!" She says
"A bit yeah, it's a good amount for larger animals, but even more for smaller ones, helps balance it out. Like I could be a goldfish and you can stomp on me and it'll fuck me up but I'm not gonna go squish" She chuckles morbidly.
"What have you installed in yourself out of curiosity? Sorry if it's an inappropriate question."
"Huh, alright. So you like, make weapons and put them in yourself." She shivers a bit, "Glad I don't have to do that."
She ponders it for a moment, "So, I'm a bit like my grandpa, where he summons sea life I turn into it. A little bit tougher, and my power's a bit broader than what he could manage, like he couldn't summon whales or semi-aquatic snakes. I can then swim-fly through the air. Oh! And I can also breathe underwater and in air in any form, base included." She smiles, "But yeah my power's broad, basically any animal that can swim pretty good is included. Capybaras, Polar Bears, Orcas, Sharks, Some crabs, etcettera."
Nereid says nothing for now, simply tilting her head at Peek-a-Boo, and letting out a few clicks for posterity, getting a very vague scan of her surroundings.
Julia doesn't say a word as she's brought into custody, she just stares at you. Hatefully. Maybe something else? It's hard to tell. When you tell her to stay out of trouble she just turns away, not bothering to say one more word.
A click, a return. The Echolocation is actually rather intuitive to use, her instincts guiding her into the varying tones and spacing of the clicks to be able to hone a general sense of her surroundings. It wasn't anything impressively precise, but it had rather good range to it, which was why she noticed the figure on the rooftop well ahead of being in line of sight, which was fine. People did that. When they stood up on the roof, she noticed and looked their way, giving the citizen a friendly Dolphin smile and a few clicks.
Nereid races off alongside Powerplay, darting through the air as she laughs, and occasionally lets off a few clicks to let her echolocation do its thing. This was fun! Now she could only hope not to run into any trouble on her first patrol.
Nereid looks up with a smile, and then you see her sort of fold up into herself. It looks a little weird for a few seconds but before you know it there's a bottlenose dolphin swimming through the air up by you. It opens its mouth in that cheeky smile Dolphins give, and you hear her voice emmanate from the dolphin. "Let's go!"
With a quick twirl as she shoots off swimming, she swims out into the open air out of the entrance, glancing around, and then back to see if Powerplay follows.
She chuckles, shaking her hand before releasing. "Fish, Dolphins- really anything that can swim. I can turn into a polar bear if it fits my fancy. That and I can swim through the air. How about you? I know you can fly, and shoot a kind of energy bolt? Can you keep up if we go on a flying Patrol?"
She glances over slightly startled, and gives her a big smile. "Hey! I think we're doing a bit of a circuit around down town today, the dossier said we'd head out directly from here and do a circuit." She stands up, and offers a hand, "Hi, uhm, I'm Nereid. Powerplay, yeah?"
Nereid finishes slipping into her swimsuit- Honestly it's a bit tight but it helps to be able to shapeshift into an eel to get in there then turn back to fit in snuggly. Heading to the preparation area, she looks around, before settling on a bench, waiting for Powerplay. She seems cheerful, but inside she's a little nervous. Her first patrol and all.
"Well it happened a few years before I was born so I've lived all my life with it. Some popularity but honestly not a lot, and we got some PRT people coming by the house to check up on us and give us some safety tips and drills to do in case a villain attacked, but overall it wasn't a huge deal." She shrugs.
She squints at you, "So you're a tinker right? I know you have the whole cat thing but I don't know much other than that, what's it like?"
"Well for one thing I think my grandpa would kill me if I didn't join. Granddaughter of a Semi-Famous Denver Protectorate cape with similar enough powers not being on the team? He'd scalp me. Also well, I guess I just like to help." She chuckles. "It was a natural fit in the end of the day."
She blinks at the hand for a moment then you can see her eyes widen. "Oh. Oh my I'm so sorry." It takes a second or two, but you see her snake form fold back up on itself, and left behind is a young vaguely Asian-American girl with dyed blue hair. She's wearing casual clothing, a T-shirt with a small Monterey Bay Aquarium logo and jeans. She takes your hand and gingerly shakes it. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize I was an Anaconda there. I'm Hannah. Granddaughter of Captain Poseidon. Uhm, my cape name is Nereid." She sheepishly grins at you
Her head recoils as her eyes sleepily blink open, staring at Cylynx. "Oh, oh sorry. Hello!" A younger girl's voice emanates from the snake. "You're Cylynx, right?"
Nereid remains on the couch, her sleepy brain not having caught up to the fact that it was 1. Probably rude to take up the whole couch like that and 2. Definitely rude to greet a new team-mate as a snake.
She wouldn't have much more to say for the rest of the trip, glum in quiet contemplation
Coiled up on the common room couch, Nereid lingers as an Anaconda. She didn't always do this, but they had this really nice.. hot lamp that was angled right over the couch and she couldn't help but bask in it, relaxing. It always felt so good. She coiled up across the couch , letting the rays soak into her as her eyes lidded closed, falling into a serpentine slumber.
Anyone who came into the common room would see a positively giant Anaconda all over the couch, coils looping in the seat and up on the couch headrests as it seems to soak in the heat of a strong table lamp aimed across the couch.
"Then I'm dead." She says, simply. "Dead, and Bethany is left in my place."
She glares at Mechakoloss. "And? It won't be me. I bet they're going to take me to therapy, and I know I'm more than just me- that Bethany is the real one down there, and she hates what I do. But I don't care because I'll be dead, and it'll be just Bethany. I don't want to die. I don't want them to do that to me. To leave behind that disgusting weakling instead of me. So I'll do everything I can and more to escape"
She shrugs in your grasp. "You got me. I didn't release him. However, I know we need to pass by the road to get to the station. If you don't let me go I'll throw his ball in the street and release him then."
Julia just smirks, and manages to snap her fingers. "Release. There he is, I've let him go, and he'll be stuck here in these woods, unconscious. 5 bucks says that ball ended up in a dangerous place like up in a tree, or in a river or creek, face down in the water if you don't get him reeeaaaal quick. Let me go and I'll get a little birdie to point you exactly in his direction."
She just shrugs. "I don't know for sure." coming off a chuckle. She looks into Mechakoloss' eyes, a smirk on her face. Then she glances back at her father, and with the small range of motion on her hand, she gestures it outwards, and he collapses into the small silvery ball, flying back into her grasp, but not before she quickly sends it flying again, the ball sailing off into the woods a good maybe 500 feet away. "You'd better fetch though, or he'll never see the light of day!" She cackles
Her fist smashes into his head, silvery blood splattering as she smashes her fist into his head, again and again and again, until he finally falls unconscious, his face a broken mess of silvery blood weeping down, trickling across the mech's hand that holds him.
All the while Julia is laughing, watching with sadistic pleasure in her eyes as she watches Mechakoloss' pain. "Now you know a fraction of what he did to me. Of what he forced me to do. Fucking pathetic." She spits, landing a glob on him.
It is- just barely as you see him bite down, but then he begins to try to spit the wallet out. Julia cackles in the background. "Fucking DO IT old man. DO IT you fucking pig. End yourself. Kill yourself like you never had the confidence to do on your own!"
B.E.A.R and Mecha manage to get him just in time. You can feel he bites down hard on your first, as hard as he can, struggling desperately against the grip as he attempts as hard as he can to follow Julia's command.
Julia just cackles as he struggles and Mechakoloss has her fist shoved in his mouth, laughing for all she's worth.
"You're a tinker, right? Who's to say you won't be the one doing it yourself?" She sneers at you. "That pig is not my father. Never call him that.". She smirks. "In fact, let's put him out of his misery."
The ball she had managed to secretly snag from Mecha's grasp with her telekinetic pull sails away from Mecha with only the smallest hint of a throw, heading exactly where Julia was aiming for, somehow, despite being in the opposite direction she'd gestured in. To the side of Mecha as she was walking, an older man in his late 50s, heavyset in a wifebeater and sports shorts and sandals appears, looking confused. Julia's grin widens as she shouts to the man, clearly her father, "Kill yourself!"
Late in the afternoon on August 6th, 2003, the hero Paragon Junior was fighting Earthdowner. At precisely 7:28 PM, Paragon Junior threw a punch towards Earthdowner, assisted by a telekinetic forcefield that surrounds the young hero.
Earthdowner was a villain in the area, with the noted ability to redirect force into the ground surrounding him, pulsing outwards in a small localized quake.
A power interaction occured, and the energy contained in Paragon Junior's forcefield was destabilized and rerouted to the surroundings.
A section of Jackson, Tennessee's downtown area consisting of 1.036 square kilometers collapsed, all buildings in the area being rendered into rubble from the force. It was unknown at the time, but the Lambuth Library happened to be located over a large natural cavern at the time. At the time of the Earth Collapse Incident, the Lambuth Library collapsed into the cavern, killing nearly everyone inside.
Overall there were an estimated 1,236 deaths, and upwards of 6,000 major and minor injuries. Earthdowner did not survive the incident, the force transferring through him having liquefied his body. Paragon Junior survived, but lost the arm used to make the punch.
To this day the Earth Collapse incident stands as a testament to unknown power interactions, and the danger they can have.
"And what will they do to me in there, keep me locked up for years, experiment on me, then send me to rot in a cell forever because human masters are reviled."
Julia's silent for a bit, and looks up at mecha, sneering. "She was going to give him to you too.". "Pathetic" She spits. "She shouldn't be giving away what's mine, any more than your friend would give away your robot."
She glares up at Meechakoloss. "I hope you rot in hell."
Julia squirms in the mech's grip futilely, giving a vicious glare to the mech. "Fuck you. I bet you get your kicks out of this, huh? Capturing me like this?"
Julia seems almost comically stunned as she awkwardly tries to dodge back to no avail, the mech easily catches her in its grip and pins her arms to the side in the same swoop. She begins to struggle in its grip to no clear avail, the mech likely easily overpowering the struggles of the young girl. "Let me go!"
The Raccoon in the compartment, heedless of other commands, continues to maul Meechakoloss' jacket. When she retrieves it it is going to be mangled to hell and back.
Julia stumbles back, staring mouth agape at the mech, before gritting her teeth and staring back at Mechakoloss, she shouts to the Raccoon, "Keep going! don't let go!." She glares at Mechakoloss hatefully. "You won't be stealing what's mine."
The raccoon continues to fervently bite into her sleeve, not making any progress but keeping latched on with all its might.
Julia sets the ball holding Officer Howard on her hip, where it somehow stays attaches as she holds out a hand, one of the silvery balls on the ground zipping to her hand on its own, before she rears back and throws it, landing in front of Meechakoloss, before unfolding into... a Raccoon. The Raccoon looks up at her, then back at Julia. Julia points to Mechakoloss and says, "Bite!"
The raccoon turns back to Mechakoloss and lunges for her with an open mouth, aiming to bite her.
"She.. whenever he heals she takes him- or, uh, his minion self, and she has the other minions beat him until he's unconscious. My father, that is."
She squats down and picks up a silvery sphere that looks exactly the same as the others. "This is the officer, uhm, I'll roll him over now." As you see she begins to try to roll it over, it's almost like a switch flipping, something in her microexpressions showing that.. it's no longer Bethany on the wheel. Her grip tightens on the sphere. "No. I won't be doing that."
Bethany Julia glances at Mechakoloss, her expression confident, a smirk crossing her face. "I guess you'll just have to take Officer Harold from me."
Glancing at Freakshow she purses her lips, and glances at her minions. She raises her hand, and all 3 of them collapse into silvery spheres, leaving behind the pieces of minions burrowing through flesh as the spheres Snap back to her hand one by one as she puts each on her belt. "You've won this bout, but we'll see how we match up in the future!" She says with a somehow triumphant cry.
She then fully turns around and begins sprinting away, darting down an alley as she makes a run for it.
"Just unconscious. I think they may have broken bones but it's not life-threatening." Bethany says carefully. "It's.. just animals, an oven, and the policeman and.. my father. And the policeman's dog."
Her lips quiver as tears build in her eyes. "No- no you don't get it. She's me. Whatever I turn into. I- I'm afraid if I try she's going to try to hurt you."
Bethany zips open her bag and several baseball-sized silvery spheres fall out, clattering to the ground. "These are.. them. Killing them releases them, or she can let them go. I'm.. I'm not sure what I make is them, it feels almost like I'm making something that looks and talks like them, but the real them is still stuck in the ball."
Her eyes snap to Mechakoloss, panic building. "Y-you know. I can't. She wouldn't let me. She won't let me." Her posture becomes defensive. "I- I need to get away from the city. Far away so she- no, so I can't hurt people."
Julia Bethany stays where she is, glancing between Mechakoloss and the partially collapsed tent. She just stays that way, looking silently between them. Thoughts visibly race through her head, a million different things to say, before settling on. "I- I'm sorry I didn't know this area was. I didn't know someone owned it. I- I know I'm dangerous, I'll leave it." Her voice quivers.
She flinches, "Uh.. n-nevermind. You can keep the tent." She tugs the strap of her purse tighter and begins to back away, still facing Mechakoloss.
Julia spots Mechakoloss approaching and her eyes go wide as she backs away, her posture very wary. Her hand shakes a little. "No- no I'm fine this. No thank you. I- I deserve this."
Julia would zip open the tent and gingerly step out, a purse at her side clearly filled with several things, bulky. "N- no I'm fine sorry. I can drink from the river." She glances down at the tent, and begins to try to pack it away, but it was clearly put up poorly, making the endeavor difficult.
The man doesn't notice the flies as he continues to shoot the blob, keeping his attention on it as the winged ones approach.
The dog begins to jerk and shake, unsuccessfully trying to dislodge the parasites in its flesh as it backs away, whining.
Julia purses her lips at the Armadillo, and says. "Ok uhm, Just Claw Attack I guess." The Armadillo unfolds, and toddles its way up to the third minion and attempts to scratch it with its claws.
Her eyes dart back and forth, and she looks back at Mechakoloss. "I'm- I'm sorry. I'll pack up and go." She zips up the tent closed and seems to shuffle around inside it doing something.
The tent flaps open as Julia's head pokes out and glances out at Mechakoloss, and blanches for a moment, unsure. "I'm sorry?"
If Mechakoloss had been looking at the news in the past weeks she'd probably recognize Julia (Bethany's) face as a local parahuman who had been commanding a missing policeman to assault other policemen.
Bethany- no, no. Julia. Julia sits in her ragged orange tent she stole from her Father that random man she continues to give weekly beatings. A series of silvery spheres lay hap hazardously around the tent as Julia just.. stares at them. Her thoughts racing and sluggish like mayonnaise in the same moment. A broken pair of her someone's random glasses lay in the corner of the tent.
The tent itself lays in a small clearing she had found the raccoons in. It was by a small stream, and nice enough that she had though to settle here for a few days.
She purses her lips and raises her hand, causing the coyote to fold itself into a silvery sphere, leaving the bits of the minion behind and returning to her hand. Pursing her lips, she sets it on her belt and reaches for another ball, lobbing it out to reveal an armadillo. She points at whatever the Coyote left behind and says, "Armadillo, use Rollout!". The Armadillo then runs and tries to roll into a ball mid-run to roll into the remains, which goes about as poorly as you could imagine, ending with the Armadillo curled into a ball several feet from whatever remains.
The dog would continue to choke down the larvae, and the police officer would continue to back away to a safe distance, firing several more shots into it.
Two pistol shots slam into one of the creatures as the German Shepard begins to bite into and try to maul the other. The Coyote faces off against the new one, running up and attempting to bite into it.
Julia watches impassively, observing the fight.
Officer Howard fires off two shots at the first small mass with pincers, as Julia sees more, and pouts. "Triples battle, huh. Ok then, I can play ball." She smirks, pulling two more balls from her belt and lobbing them out, generating a German Police Dog wearing kevlar armor, and a Coyote. She points at the two of them, "Each attack your own rat!". Both the dog and the coyote would then run and begin to try and maul a grey sphere of their own accord.
Officer Howard, distracted by the other officer doesn't notice the grey thing, but Julia spots it as it gets up close to him. She says aloud, "Officer howard, be careful! Kill the rat."
Officer Howard turns around and spots the little grey ball of flesh, and carefully points his service weapon at it, backing away as it approaches him.
She doesn't notice him as she follows, walking along and glancing around, getting somewhat impatient until she spots another police officer, who's glancing over at her and talking into a radio, having seen her power in action. Grabbing the ball from her side, which has several other balls there- she lazily tosses it out, wherupon it unfolds once more into Officer Howard. Pointing her finger at the other officer, she says aloud, "Officer Howard, attack!"
Whereupon Officer Howard draws his service weapon and aims it at the other officer, and begins to run up. The other officer aims his own service weapon, but Howard dukes out of the way and fires off a shot, clipping the other officer's hand and forcing him to drop the weapon. Howard runs up to the officer as he recoils, clutching his hand, and smashes him over the head with his service revolver, knocking him unconscious.
Julia smiles as Officer Howard tazes another officer in the neck from behind, successfully managing to take out another of his peers at the Denver police force. "Good job Officer Howard! Return!" She calls, extending her hand as he folds up on himself into a silvery sphere which zips back to her hand, which she sets to her side.
Glancing around past the unconscious police officer, she continues on her way, seeking more... challengers to fuel the experience of her minions.
